Tai Tam Capital launching to outside investors after 12 months.....

Hedge Funds New York: Hong Kong-based Tai Tam Capital has been running its Asian global macro strategy for 13 months and has achieved +74% gross cumulative returns and a Sharpe ratio of 1.47. In advance of their fall road show Opalesque spoke with co-founder Wen Shiau about the Tai Tam investment philosophy and how an Asia focused tri-angulation of research, relationships, and data gives them a more comprehensive view of the world.

Strategy
Tai Tam Asian Global Macro Hedge Fund (TTAM) is a global macro fund which will maintain a minimum 50% geographic allocation to Asia (including Japan) and Australia and trade a portfolio of liquid cash and derivative instruments in equities, fixed income, currencies and commodities.

Volatility in the financial markets has provided a wealth of opportunities for the TTAM managers who feel the ability to step into and out of trends is one of the strengths of their strategy. “Macro is a nimble strategy. For example, you can trade Euro/Dollar by the second. Or you can trade it with a multi week/month/year view,” said Shiau. The TTAM strategy has been run over the past 13 months with partner investments and a leverage of up to four times but an average of less than two times.

As the fund opens to outside investors, the managers, whose main focus is capital preservation and low correlation to the equities market, anticipate the creation of share classes which will reflect risk/return profiles that fit investor’s desired leverage to this strategy.

By utilizing a trade strategy that encompasses all asset classes in Asia and the G7, Shiau says TTAM’s view of the world provides the most complete picture possible to trade.
